The article substantiates the relevance of studying the category of politeness within contemporary humanities. This relevance stems from the very nature of the phenomenon: its multi-layered character necessitates moving beyond narrow disciplinary analysis in favor of a transdisciplinary methodology, as the true heuristic potential of the category of politeness is revealed at the intersection of pragmalinguistics, psycholinguistics, sociology, cultural studies, and communication theory. The objective is to provide an overview of the scholarly literature on the category of politeness, characterize the key trends and achievements regarding this phenomenon, and outline the most relevant aspects for the study of politeness discourse. Cultural scripts and sociocultural systems, as well as cultural interference, are examined through the lens of politeness; the concept of stereotypy is further developed, alongside the semantics and pragmatics of the linguistic category of politeness. This paper reviews comparative studies on politeness, including linguistic politeness. The analysis demonstrates the fundamentally open nature of the politeness category, a characteristic linked to its significant transdisciplinary potential, which opens up new research horizons for Tajik philology.
