Abstract

The article reflects the role and status of academician Bobojon Gafurov in the study, research, and popularization of the great world masterpiece, the Shah-name by Abulqasim Firdausi, which is a shining example of heroism, nobility, valor, national self-knowledge, patriotism, and wisdom for our nations. Based on reliable sources, the attention and love of the scholar B. Gafurov to Firdausi is emphasized, and his achievements in the publication and distribution of the Shahnameh in Tajikistan in the 1930s–50s, when he held responsible government and party positions, are also highlighted. It is emphasized that Bobojon Gafurov, especially during his tenure as director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1956–1977), paid great attention to the issue of publishing the full text of the Shahnameh, and the nine-volume edition of this brilliant work was carried out in Moscow and Dushanbe precisely on the initiative and direct leadership of this outstanding son of Tajik nation. It is noted that in his fundamental works, especially in “Tajiks” (1972), Academician Bobojon Gafurov called Abulkasim Firdausi the greatest Persian and Tajik poet, and placed his “Shahnameh” in terms of artistic value on a par with the outstanding works of epic poetry of world literature.
