The article analyzes the semantic and grammatical features of the wordmagar (unless, really, maybe, except) in the poetry of Hafiz. It is noted thatthis word is used very often in the poetry of Hafiz. It has been establishedthat in the poetry of Hafiz the word magar is used in the following functions:1) preposition (except, with the exception of); 2) a modal verb (shoistan) (tobe worthy, to be appropriate) in complex sentences, in the main clause of acomplex sentence, in a simple sentence as part of a complex sentence, in asubordinate clause as part of a complex sentence; 3) interrogative particle(unless, whether) as part of an interrogative sentence in a compoundsentence; as part of the main clause; 4) restrictive particle (only); 5) asubordinating conjunction. Analysis shows that the word "magar" is mostoften used as a modal verb and interrogative particle. Magar is also used asa conjunction to denote various meanings (object, goal, adversative).
