Abstract

The article notes that when compiling the work “Muntakhab-ut-tavorikh”, Muhammad Hakim Khan, in addition to more than thirty sources, the authors of which are indicated in the text, also used some letters from rulers and high-ranking officials of the first half of the 19th century that were at his disposal. The following letters were analyzed: the letter of the Emir of Afghanistan, Dost Muhammad Khan, to the Secretary of the Governor-General of India, V. Macnaghten; the letter of the Kokand prince, Sultan Mahmud Khan, to Emir Nasrullah; the letter of Emir Nasrullah to the ruler of the Kokand Khanate, Muhammadali Khan. It is emphasized that these letters provide more detailed information on some aspects of historical events compared to official chronicles. It is concluded that the use of letters as historical sources significantly increases the historical and scientific value of the work.
