SOME CONSIDERATIONS ON THE PLACE OF ARABIZED VOCABULARY IN THE DICTIONARY “DONISHNOMAI KADARKHON”

Abstract

The article examines the problem of reflecting Arabized vocabulary (muarrabot) in explanatory Persian-Tajik dictionaries of the 11th-15th centuries. It is noted that, although Arabized vocabulary is found in all seven explanatory dictionaries of the 11th to early 15th centuries, compiled in Khorasan and the Indian subcontinent, the terms muarrab (Arabized) and ta'rib (Arabization) themselves are not used in the aforementioned lexicographic works. The Arabicized vocabulary found in the "Donishnomai Kadarhon" dictionary is primarily formed by the transformation of consonants and the addition of a consonant at the end of a word. In some cases, the dictionary's author provides both the original and Arabicized forms in its entries. Al-Foruqi often explains Arabicized vocabulary using Tajik, Indian, and Arabic synonyms. In terms of origin, most of the Arabicized vocabulary in the "Donishnomai Kadarkhon" dictionary is native Tajik, although it does contain Syriac, Greek, and Sanskrit words.
