The article dwells on some features of Sadriddin Ayni's letters. It is noted that today Ayni’s epistolary heritage has been studied more in literary terms, but its linguistic features have remained outside the field of view of researchers. An analysis of the letters of the founder of modern Tajik literature showed that in the letters of S. Ayni, linguistic units or means, in addition to the communicative function, also perform an aesthetic function. The style of the epistolary heritage of Sadriddin Ayni is divided into two periods according to linguistic features: 1) letters given by S. Ayni in the book “Tahzib-us-sibyon”; 2) letters that Ayni wrote to writers, students, friends and his children. In terms of the use of linguistic units, the texts of letters of the first period differ from the texts of the second period. So, if in the letters of the first period there are more Arabic borrowings, then in the letters of the second period Russian-international words are also used.
