ThearticleanalyzesthefeaturesoftranslationandtheuseofartisticexpressionwhentranslatingintoRussianthestory “Cuttlefish” (“Rudapo”) byAbdulhamidSamad. Particular attention is paid to the translation of metaphors, in particular their evaluative aspect. It is emphasized that the metaphors in the story “Cuttlefish” reveal not only the image of a careerist, but also convey the author’s changing attitude towards this type of people throughout the work. It is noted that in the translation of the story four methods of translating metaphorical components are used; counter metaphorization; non-metaphorical translation; replacing metaphor with one's own interpretations, literal identity. It is especially emphasized that the correct translation of a metaphor is extremely important for a complete understanding of the translated work.
