Abstract

It is known that in linguistics the language phenomenon of homonymy is mostly studied on the level of lexis.  The article is devoted to the studies of the language phenomenon of homonymy in the morphological system of English and Tajik languages. Typological investigation of four English homomorphemes “-er”, “-ed”,  “-ing”,  “-s (-es)”   andthree Tajikhomomorphemes “-ӣ”, “-тар”,  “-ам”  are the object of the given research. The flective morphemes due to their polyfuctining and presence of homonym specificities are included into the number of homomorphemes. The existence of homomorphemes “-ed” can cause grammatical challenges in defining past participle and perfect form of verb. However, the solution of the problem comes out from the previous context, i.е., while defining the word finished by “-ed”  the whole context should be analyzed. Proceeding from theoretical resources ofnative and foreign philologists about inflexional homomorphes we reveal their extra functions. As well as,  English inflexional   morpheme “-er” functions not only as a noun suffix, however, the given formant builds acomparative degree of qualitative adjectives and adverbs. In the system of the Tajik language morpheme  “-тар”executes  the same function.
