Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the mechanisms for preserving imagery, expressiveness and authorial style in the context of interlingual interpretation. This article examines the use of simile as a key stylistic device of artistic expression, as well as the specifics of its translation from Tajik into Russian, using Sadriddin Aini's novel "Dokhunda" as an example. As a trope, simile plays an important role in creating vivid artistic images, revealing the author's position, and conveying the emotional and aesthetic impact of a work on the reader. The analysis draws on theoretical positions by leading foreign and Russian scholars (Aristotle, Foucault, Potebnya, Akhmanova, Galperin, and others), revealing the multifaceted nature of simile and its relationship to other tropes—metaphor, hyperbole, litotes, and oxymoron. Particular attention is paid to the pragmatic aspects of translating similes: methods of conveying comparative constructions, their transformations during translation, and instances of stylistic loss and adaptation are examined. A classification of similes is provided, and the linguistic, stylistic, cultural, and genre features that influence the choice of translation strategies are discussed.
