The article examines some aspects of the definition of the characteristics of kulak households, which served as the basis for their subsequent liquidation and persecution during the general collectivization, which is one of the unexplored pages of the historical past of the Tajik people. It is emphasized that in rural areas of Tajikistan and the former Soviet state in 1918-1930, kulak farms were defined on the basis of a list of persons deprived of voting rights, individual taxpayers, hired laborers and persons living on unearned income. The characteristics of kulak farms and the procedure for their liquidation were not specified in the legal order and were determined according to different criteria. It is noted that the amount of tax paid by a peasant farm, in most cases, led to the deprivation of its owner's voting rights, and if a person for some reason was deprived of the voting rights, then an individual tax was immediately determined for him and his farm was included in the list of kulak farms. Subsequently, such households were liquidated, the heads of these households and their members were deprived of civil, constitutional and electoral rights and were subjected to extrajudicial prosecution. The liquidation of kulak households was carried out on the basis of directives of party organs, Soviets, OGPU orders, circulars, by-laws and local acts.
