Abstract

The purpose of the analysis is polemics (munozara) between the heroes of Abulqosim Firdowsi`s poem “Shah-Name" Khusrav Parviz and Bahrom Chubin before the battle took place between them. It is noted that in the great epic there are many munozars, but among them between Khusrav and Bahrom stands out. It is also reported that munozara is to a certain extent a common form of Persian-Tajik classical poetry and its most famous example should be considered Khusrav`s and Farhad`s polemics in Nizami`s poem entitled as “Khusrav and Shirin”. It is mentioned that Asadi Tusi left five munozars and that the poetic figure “question-answer” can also be considered a kind of munozara. It is explained that the polemics in question aims to put the opponent in a difficult position before the fight. Despite the stray sides, no one manages to inflict a verbal wound on the enemy. Khusrav the first refuses to continue the dispute and Bahrom judging by Ferdowsi`s depiction is not satisfied with the results of polemics, so that the reader gets the impression that both sides look at the battle with fear or anxiety. Young Khusrav does not fail in polemics, but in any case, as heir to the throne he comes up with a number of important proposals. However, Bahrom subject to the temptation to seize the royal power cannot overcome himself, because he wants to put an end, not only to Khusrav, but to the entire Sassanid dynasty either. It is concluded that polemics is described in a simple and measured language and as is typical of Ferdowsi`s style without any artificiality.
