The article presents one of the most interesting linguistic phenomena, that of a use of contracted phraseological units, on the example of the popular PHN “На сих сузад, на кабоб” (literal translation from Russian – “Both wolves are replete and sheep are intact”. The author considers the peculiarities of this Ph U usage, proceeding from the materials of mediaeval and modern interpretation dictionaries: Bilingual Russian-Tajik, Tajik-Russian, Russian-Persian and Persian-Russian dictionaries. It is marked that PhUs reflect realias of a cerain historic epoch, the life of people and in the course of time in some cases association between word-for-word and allegoric meanings passes away completely. On the example from Dj.Rumi`s “Masnavi Manavi” the author restors the full variant of the PHN “Neither a skip is burned nor meat remains underroasted”. It is proved that due to contraction of the nominal predicate of the second simple sentence (хом монад) in a compound sentence the PhU consists of the action of the predicate of the first sentence (сӯзадwhich is spread to the rest part of the second sentence (kebab) and this fact preconditions logical non-correspondence and lack of coordination in the perception of PHN.
