Abstract

The article is devoted to the history of Sarazm mining and metallurgy. This site is known as one of the early centers of mining and processing of minerals. During the archaeological excavations at Sarazm settlement, many items (tools, weapons, carvings) made of copper, bronze, lead, silver and gold were found. Melting furnaces, workshops, tools and tools for metal processing were also found in Sarazm. Ancient mining sites and mines have been found in the surrounding mountains. The beginning of specialization in the production of goods contributed to the emergence of social hierarchies and the end of urbanization. The resulting analyses of slag from furnaces and numerous metals finds indicate to a high level of mining and metallurgical industry in the settlement. At the turn of the IV-III millennia BC, largely due to the development of mining and metallurgy, Sarazm became the main commercial and cultural crossroad of the ancient East.
