Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of differential properties of the English word forms with the morpheme “-ed” which in one case functions as a finite form of the verb, indicating reference of the action to the past tense in the variety of Past Indefinite and in another case act as Participle II serving for the formation of the categorical form of passive voice  or perfect forms of the verb. Besides the same homoform may perform the function of an attribute, or of an adverbial modifier. It is proved that two factors promote to differentiate the statuses of this homoform: 1) its distribution, 2) its function performed in the structure of the sentence. The form of the Past Indefinite corresponds to two tense forms of the Tajik verb: 1) simple past tense, 2) narrative past tense. As for the form of Participle 11‚ it is translated into Tajik by means of a participle of priority functioning as a part of a predicate or an attribute, as well as of an adverbial modifier.
