Reflection of Mediaeval Anthroponyms of Tajiks in the Treatise «Four Conversations» by Nizami Aruzi Samarkandi

Abstract

The article dwells on the issues of mediaeval anthroponymy of Tajiks. Proceeding from the information relating to Nizami Aruzi Samarkandi,  the author has studied such items as origin, formation, transformation and mutual influence of names, pseudonyms, titles,  prenames (kunya) and other mediaeval anthroponyms of Tajiks occurring in the treatise «Four Conversations», the author canvasses also such questions as the role of   anthroponyms in determination of social-religious  appurtenance, political status and economic plight of their bearers and the epoch upon the whole.

The author deems that many mediaeval anthroponyms of Tajiks refer to the Arabic language and the treatise deals with the supreme layer of society and scientists. One may consider that in these circles of society Islamic culture has influential positions. The discussion of this problem gives an idea about the scientific circles of those times.
