Abstract

The article dwells on the analysis of various aspects appertaining to the ancient Persian-Tajik translation of the book “Approval and Censure” by Saolibi Nishopuri implemented by Mukhammad ibn Abubakr Ali Kotib Sovi, a translator of the XIII-th century. It is underscored that 80 moral themes are canvassed in the work having much in common with Sasanid productions in thematic-formal aspect; the latters being written in the form of “Becoming and Unbecoming”, i.e., what responds to the rules of decency and what should be condemned going counter to them. The author of the article adduces the data about Saolibi`s composition, draws attention to stylistic and linguistic peculiarities and raises the problems of adequacy between original and translated variants. It is emphasized that the translator pursued an aim to make this treasury accessible for Persian-speaking peoples. Sovi`s merit concerning a revival of one of the types of pre-Islamic Persian-Tajik prose is marked; the main aspect of it being the moral nature of both praise and reprimand.
