This article examines the category relations of nouns in the English and Tajik languages. It is noted that English nouns have three category relations: the category of case, which serves to express their syntactic relations with other words in an utterance or with the entire speech; the category of definiteness and indefiniteness, which expresses the subjective attitude of interlocutors to the object or objects mentioned in the utterance; the category of number, which is a set of opposite forms implying one or more than one object. Tajik nouns have two categorical relations: the categories of number and definiteness and indefiniteness. The category of definiteness and indefiniteness has a grammatical meaning and a special morphological form, which differs from other nouns in meaning and form. The category of number expresses the unity or separateness of the named objects, and the singular and plural forms of nouns are grammatical expressions of this category.
