The article examines handicraft production in the city of Ura-Tyube in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is emphasized that local artisans, who possessed high skills and unique traditional techniques, played an important role in the local economy. Particular attention is paid to the characteristics of the internal and external markets for handicrafts, trade routes and the impact of competition with imported goods on local products. According to the 1897 census, it was found that 87% of the population of Ura-Tyube were engaged in trade and crafts. The state of textile production, the production of semi-fabrics and the processing of cotton and metals, the state of affairs in leather and shoe production, blacksmithing and other crafts are also described. To a certain extent, the structures of simple capitalist cooperatives and manufactories in the sphere of handicrafts in Ura-Tyube are studied, and the importance of these economic processes is determined.
