Abstract

The article dwells on dialect vocabulary in the famous literary production of Faridaddin Attar entitled as “Mantik-ut-tayr”. It is noted that dialect vocabulary in “Mantik-ut-tayr” can be divided into three groups: 1. The first group includes dialect words that are not used in modern Persian, but are widely used in modern Tajik (for example, musicha - gorlinka); 2. The second group consists of dialect words that were very widely used in the Middle Ages in dialect of Kadkan located near Nishapur. This group of words is not used in modern Tajik language, but is often found in Persian (for example, tifli bashir - a baby; bark / barg / varg - a dam, a dam); 3. The third group includes words that are used in modern Tajik and Persian languages (for example, kubla / kubala - bubble; kalova / kalof - skein). With reference to the study of the famous Iranian scientist Muhammadrizo Shafei Kadkani it is emphasized that all dialect words found in “Mantik-ut-tayr” are still used today in dialect of Kadkan near Nishapur.
