The article presents an analysis of the activities carried out by five largest electronic and online encyclopedias: 1. Wikipedia; 2. Krugosvet.ru; 3. Encyclopedia.ru (The World of Encyclopedias) inclusive, and some others. It is marked that the result of the unseen evolution of science and technique at the end of the XX-th the beginning of the XXI-th centuries electronic and online encyclopedias for a short time could have replaced traditional printed ones and so they have acquired a global character. It is underscored that at present in substructures of the World Website there function over hundred electronic encyclopedias serving millions of subscribers simultaneously. The author stresses especially the fact that of unswerving raising of population`s trust towards information from electronic encyclopedias: if in 2012, according to the data of the World Center of Public Opinion Studies, this indicator made up 57%, then in December of 2020 it attained 69%. Wikipedia is the only electronic encyclopedia which prints materials in the Tajik language. The necessity of cautious, targeted, critical usage of material of free electronic encyclopedias is emphasized ostentatiously.
