In this article the author analyzes the system-forming factors of national mentality, such as traditionalism and individualism. The author defines the term “traditionalism” as world view or counterrevolutionary ideas which put traditional values higher than reason. Also she notes that in traditional societies to which the Tajik one belongs traditions and customs are considered to be a high value and they are idealized; into the bargain, their implementation is strongly controlled and evaluated. Another component of the Tajik society that of collectivism, is interpreted as a model of social relationships where collective interests, but not individual ones, are in the center of attention. The author of the article tries to answer the question: “To what extent do Tajik traditionalism and collectivism conform with sound sense?”.
