Ethnonymic Names in «Masnavii Ma’nawi» by Jaloliddin Rumi

Abstract

The article dwells on the peculiarities of usage of ethnonyms being one of compound parts of poetic onomastics in Rumi`s poetry. Alongside with certain names of nations, tribes, clans the author has elicited typological regularities associated with their genetically heterogeneous ethnoses and the direction of economy running, historic ties upon the whole as well. While studying social-psychological ties she canvassed linguistic and cultural relations between different nationalities. Ethnonymic units in Sufiy poetry promoted the narration concerned with ethnocultural lifestyle of different nations.

In the course of studying onomastic strata in Sufiy poetry belonging to Rumi there are determined two principles groups of notions including: both macroethnonyms and microethnonyms which served as a means of historic-religious background depiction of Islamic and Non-Islamic world in the mainstream of Sufiy doctrines. The study of ethnonyms in Rumi`s poetry promoted the disclosure of multitude of specific features of Moslemic life, in particular, mystical life of Sufiys
