From the History of the Studies Related to Gold and Gold Wares of Central Asia Referring to the Period of the XVIII-th – the Beginning of the XX-th Centuries

Abstract

The article dwells on the historiography concerned with the history of the works related to gold extraction with subsequent refining of gold in Central Asia in the period of the the XVIII-th – the beginning of the XX-th centuries. The research is targeted at the generalization of the works of Russian historians and Orientalists reflecting such issues: whereabouts of gold mines, state of gold extraction organization, ways and methods of extraction of raw and washed gold, gold coinage, activities of craftsmen dealing with gold and silver, especially gold refining by jewelleres and other questions connected with extraction and utilization of gold on the territory of Central Asia. The author managed to have analyzed scrupulously the most important explorations of Russian authors referring to the period in question and to have described briefly the state of the jobs related to gold extraction. Analyzing scientific works and origins the author came to the conclusion that before 1917 yet there was created the historiographical ground for studying cardinal issues of the problem in regard to the history of gold extraction and gold refining in the post-feudal Central Asia of the XVIII-th – the beginning of the XX-th centuries.
