The Influence of Labour Migration upon Migrants` Health in Russia and their Spouses in Tajikistan

Abstract

The article sums up the results of the data  obtained by two quantitative sociologic questionings conducted in Russia and Tajikistan  on the problems  of labour migration influence upon family relations and social-economic  plight of the residents of Tajikistan. The research was carried out on the basis of two different questionnaires, similar by the structure of the  problems studied and encompassed. Questioning was effectuated in three  languages: Tajik, Uzbek and Russian. The  following issues were involved: state of labour migrants` health, provision with  medical insurance and  services, branch of  migrant`s activity, family  amount, positive and negative consequences of migration. The author comes  to the conclusion that the state of labour migrants` health and medical screening are of great importance not only for the  workers themselves, but for employers and local population either. Therefore, medical examination of migrants should be a compulsory element of the system  connected with placing  foreign labour force in jobs.
