On the basis of comparative and retrospective analysis the author makes an attempt to explore the ways of formation and development of press-service of the Republic of Tajikistan and its role in the country's mass media. Particular attention is paid to the establishment of the Institute of Public Relations in the state bodies of the republic. Pointing to the development of press-service in the Republic of Tajikistan in the period of independence, the author states: Press-Service appeared in the state bodies of the USSR at the sunset of strong Communist power, first in central, and then in local party structures. Press-office in state bodies is the link for providing information between society and organizations which was created on the basis of this pressstructure. Press-service is designed to inform citizens about the activities and position of the authorities, their policies, as well as using masses for shaping public opinion on the actions of the authorities. On the basis of archival materials and those of periodicals the author also analyzes the features of formation and development of the press-service of Sughd viloyat since 1992.
