The article dwells on food vocabulary of the scantily studied Tajik-Persian dictionary of the XV-th century “Donishnomai Kadarkhon” by Ashraf al-Faruki. 39 vocabulas of the dictionary in question are devoted to food vocabulary which is divided into the following groups: words denoting the names of flatcakes, culinary dishes and salads, sweets and drinks. Some of these words have become archaisms to the present in the literary Tajik language, but they are actively used in dialects and vernaculars. While commenting on food vocabulary the authors of the dictionaries of the period in the span of the XI-th – the XV-th cc. sometimes admitted mistakes, as the words spread in different Persian-speaking regions weren`t perfectly familiar to Indian lexicographers. Critical lexicolographic and textologic analyses of the material of “Donishnomai Kadarkhon” will promote a restoration of the mediaeval food vocabulary and its proper understanding.
